多年来,医疗口译员、电话口译(OPI)以及视频远程口译(VRI)从业者一直被告知,这个行业正在“持续增长”。

医疗体系对于语言服务的需求不断增加,移民人口持续上升,而 COVID 疫情之后远程医疗迅速普及,市场需求几乎无处不在。

但为什么如今越来越多的口译员却开始说:

“我必须同时接两三家公司才能维持生活。”
“口译费率每年都在下降。”
“高薪口译员的来电被逐渐转走。”
“AI 正在取代我们。”
“这个职业已经无法长期维持下去了。”

这些已经不再只是零星抱怨。

它们正逐渐成为 Reddit、Facebook 群组、Discord 社群以及各类自由口译员圈子中的主流话题。

而令人不安的事实是:

这个行业确实正在发生巨大变化,只是方向并不一定更好。

从热情到生存压力

更令人感慨的是,许多人最初进入这个行业,并不是为了赚钱(至少一开始不是)。

为了写下这篇文章,我花了相当长时间做研究、提问、阅读讨论,并整理自己的想法。我加入了 Reddit、Facebook、Discord 以及专业论坛中的口译员社群,因为我真心热爱这份工作。

过去,那些社群充满启发性。

口译员们会分享艰难的医疗案例,在创伤性通话后彼此支持,讨论专业术语,指导新人如何处理敏感场景,并不断提醒彼此:这份工作为什么重要。

在那里,人们能够感受到一种使命感。

大家谈论的是如何帮助中风患者与医生沟通,如何安抚急诊室里惊恐的家属,如何协助难民,如何支持精神科评估,又或者只是单纯地成为一个在异国他乡帮助患者“被听见”的声音。

你能够真切感受到口译员对于帮助他人的热情。

但随着时间推移,社群里的讨论逐渐改变了。

人们不再主要讨论病患照护、文化理解或专业成长,而是越来越多地开始谈论“如何生存”:

费率下降,
来电减少,
公司削减报酬,
职业倦怠,
身心疲惫,
对 AI 的担忧,
无薪等待时间,
以及口译员为了支付房租,不得不同时操作三个平台。

整个氛围明显变得沉重。

曾经建立在使命感与同理心之上的社群,如今越来越像一个互相支撑的支持团体,帮助从业者不要在自己曾经热爱的行业里被淹没。

坦白说,这种转变本身,就已经说明了如今口译行业正在经历什么。

口译员正在经历什么

在多个线上讨论中,口译员反复提到类似的问题:

• 每分钟费率降低
• 高薪口译员的派单优先级下降
• 被迫接受“更新后的合约”
• 海外低成本招聘增加
• 无薪等待时间变长
• 公司与口译员之间的忠诚关系减少
• AI 辅助口译工具逐渐进入工作流程
• 公司被大型集团并购整合

许多资深口译员表示,如今的工作环境与五年前相比已经截然不同。

其中一个不断出现的担忧是:

“如果你拒绝降低费率,你的来电量就会莫名减少。”

虽然公司极少公开承认会依据费率层级调整派单,但许多口译员都表示,在拒绝降薪协议后,自己明显接到更少的通话。

即使这只是“感受”,它本身也已经对行业造成伤害,因为它让承包制口译员长期处于焦虑与不安全感之中。

行业整合问题

语言服务行业近年来最大的变化之一,就是“整合”。

过去许多以服务质量与口译员关系为核心竞争力的小型口译公司,如今越来越多地被大型投资集团收购。

例如,Propio Language Services 近年来便通过并购与投资支持迅速扩张。行业报告也记录了私募基金与资本进入语言服务行业的趋势。

当私募资本进入某个行业时,优先考虑的通常会变成:

大规模扩张,
提高利润率,
整合竞争对手,
降低劳动力成本,
以及最大化运营效率。

简单来说:

口译员开始被视为“成本”。

而不是行业的核心资产。

一旦某家公司开始激进压低成本,其竞争对手往往也会被迫跟进,以维持市场竞争力。

最终形成“向下竞争”。

医院真的支付每分钟 2 美元吗?

这是目前口译员社群中最广泛流传的迷思之一。

有些口译员认为,医院向语言服务公司支付每分钟 2 至 4 美元,但真正执行工作的口译员只拿到其中极小的一部分。

现实情况其实复杂得多。

价格会因为以下因素而大幅变化:

语言稀有程度,
医院合约,
通话量协议,
本地或海外执行,
VRI 或 OPI,
政府或私人医疗体系,
紧急覆盖需求,
以及可用性保证。

一些业内人士与口译员指出,许多大型医院系统如今会针对高通量语言(例如西班牙语)谈判极低的大宗合约。

部分估算甚至认为,某些合约的服务端履约成本可能只有每分钟 0.45 至 0.75 美元。

但即使公司并没有收取“每分钟 2 美元”,口译员仍然感到被严重压缩,因为:

运营成本上涨,
通货膨胀上涨,
医疗需求增加,
但口译员收入却长期停滞甚至下降。

因此,从口译员角度来看,行业的“成长”似乎发生在所有地方,唯独没有发生在他们的薪资上。

AI 真的正在取代口译员吗?

这是当前最大的焦虑来源。

答案是:

是,也不是。

AI 已经开始以多种形式进入语言服务行业:

AI 转录,
AI 摘要,
AI 辅助派单,
AI 自动字幕翻译,
AI 双语聊天系统,
AI 语音合成,
以及低风险场景中的 AI 初步口译。

但完全取代医疗口译员,依然存在极高风险。

因为医疗口译从来不只是“翻译”。

它还涉及:

文化协调,
情绪细节,
方言理解,
患者安全,
法律责任,
伦理判断,
即时澄清,
创伤沟通,
临终讨论,
精神科评估,
以及知情同意。

而 AI 在许多方面仍然存在严重局限。

一个错误翻译的症状、药物剂量,甚至情绪暗示,都可能直接伤害病患。

这也是为什么人类口译员依然不可或缺。

然而,公司已经开始把 AI 当作一种“施压工具”。

即使 AI 无法完全取代口译员,它仍然可以:

减少人力配置,
自动处理简单通话,
降低行业对于人类口译的价值认知,
迫使承包口译员接受更低报酬。

而这将改变整个市场心理。

海外低成本效应

全球化也是另一个巨大因素。

越来越多公司开始从生活成本较低的国家招聘口译员。

从商业角度来看,这其实是非常直接的经济逻辑。

如果美国口译员需要:

每分钟 0.90 美元才能维持生活,

而另一位海外口译员愿意接受:

每分钟 0.25 美元,

大型企业自然会倾向于更低的运营成本。

这种模式正在全球范围内对费率形成巨大下行压力。

为什么越来越多口译员同时为多家公司工作?

因为承包制度本身,已经把风险转移给了口译员。

如今多数口译员属于:

自由职业者,
独立承包商,
零工经济工作者。

这意味着他们没有:

保证工时,
稳定薪资,
医疗福利,
带薪假期,
或派单保障。

因此,口译员只能自然地进行“分散风险”。

同时与:

Globo Language Solutions、
Propio Language Services、
LanguageLine Solutions、
TransPerfect,

或多个平台合作,已经越来越像是一种“生存策略”,而非职业发展。

过去那种:

“长期忠诚服务于一家口译公司”

的模式,正在逐渐消失。

这是贪婪、市场演变,还是两者皆是?

坦白说,很可能两者都有。

市场力量

整个行业变得:

更加数字化,
更加全球化,
竞争更加激烈,
也更容易规模化。

而这些变化本来就会自然压低价格。

企业压力

与此同时:

并购,
投资人期待,
成长目标,
利润优化,

进一步加剧了对劳动力的压缩。

而口译员往往是最先感受到冲击的人。

隐藏的讽刺

医疗体系依然极度需要口译员。

语言服务在法律与伦理层面依然不可或缺。

医院每天都依赖口译员处理:

急诊,
手术,
精神科评估,
癌症治疗,
临终照护,
知情同意,
以及创伤场景。

然而,这些长期承担高度情绪劳动的一线人员,却越来越感到自己被忽视、被低估。

口译员每天面对:

死亡通知,
中风通话,
败血症急救,
精神危机,
虐待揭露,
难民创伤,
绝症诊断。

而许多人如今认为,这样的报酬已经难以持续维生。

这个行业未来会走向哪里?

这才是真正的问题。

可能的发展方向包括:

  1. AI 辅助的人类口译模式

这可能是最现实的短期未来。

人类口译员依然是核心,而 AI 负责:

准备工作,
转录,
术语支持,
文档整理,
流程辅助。

  1. 更进一步的费率压缩

尤其是在:

常见语言,
高流量 OPI,
入门级口译工作中,

这种情况很可能持续发生。

  1. 更高程度的专业化

拥有以下专长的口译员,未来可能更具保护性:

医疗,
法律,
精神科,
稀有语言,
以及高敏感文化沟通。

  1. 口译员自营平台

这种趋势正在逐渐出现。

越来越多口译员开始探索:

直接医院合约,
合作社模式,
利基型机构,
