医療通訳者として働く中で、私は高い専門性を持つ看護師、医師、技術者、その他の専門家から成る医療チームと協力する機会に恵まれました。これらの方々は優れた批判的思考力を持ち、常に患者の安全とケアを最優先に考えています。

しかし、私たちの仕事において、言語の専門知識と業務の効率性には違いがあるのでしょうか?その答えは「はい」です。そして正直に言えば、これは私が自分自身で気づいたことではありませんでした。経験豊富で洞察力のあるシニア・ランゲージ・スペシャリスト(SLS)、支援的なチームリーダー、そして献身的なトレーナーたちの指導を通じて、業務を継続的なプロセス改善の視点で捉えることの重要性を理解することができました。

これらの指導者たちは、以下のような貴重な洞察を私に与えてくれました:

シニア・ランゲージ・スペシャリスト(SLS): 医療の現場における高リスクな場面で、正確さ、明瞭さ、効率性を維持するために、自分の通訳パフォーマンスを批判的に分析する方法を教えてくれました。
チームリーダー: 業務フローの課題を振り返ることを奨励してくれるだけでなく、改善が必要な領域を特定し、建設的なフィードバックを提供し、複雑なケースで直面する問題を解決する手助けをしてくれました。
トレーナー: 専門的なトレーニングセッションを通じて、言語的・文化的正確性を保ちながらコミュニケーションを最適化するためのベストプラクティスを教えてくれました。

また、経験豊富な通訳者や同僚たちと経験を共有する機会も非常に有意義でした。これらのディスカッションを通じて、同時通訳の管理方法や、難しい状況でプロフェッショナルかつ共感的に対応する方法など、新しい課題への取り組み方を学ぶことができました。彼らの成功例や失敗例から学ぶことで、私のスキルセットが広がり、効率や効果を向上させる新しいアプローチを採用することができました。

これらの洞察を基に、私は自分のパフォーマンスを向上させるための実践的な方法に焦点を当て始めました。例えば、通話接続プロセスの簡略化、緊急時の対応技術の開発、または通訳者の疲労を軽減する方法の模索などです。これらの取り組みは、問題解決の視点で仕事に取り組むことを可能にしてくれました。

課題をプロセス重視の視点で捉えることで、通訳業務へのアプローチが大きく変わりました。この仕事は単に言語の壁を乗り越えるだけでなく、業務効率向上というより広い目標にも貢献するものです。言語の専門知識とプロセス改善を組み合わせることで、パフォーマンス向上が継続的な旅であることを深く理解するようになりました。

この旅は、私一人で進むものではありません。むしろ、メンター、同僚、チームリーダーたちの知恵を結集した協力の結果です。彼らは、患者ケアのためにシームレスで効率的な環境を作ることに尽力しています。私たちは共に努力し、患者や医療提供者、家族とのやり取りのすべてが、最高水準のコミュニケーションとケアを実現するよう努めています。

継続的改善のマインドセットを受け入れることで、私はこの仕事により大きな充実感を見出し、医療システムにおける自分の役割をより深く理解できるようになりました。この視点は私のスキルを強化しただけでなく、小さな変化がすべての関係者にとって深い影響をもたらす可能性があるという信念をさらに強めてくれました。
