  163. Behind the Screen: The Emotional Journey of an Interpreter

I’m not sure if anyone has gone through something similar, but lately I’ve been struggling with a situation that I honestly don’t know how to handle. Sometimes I wonder if moving on is really that difficult, especially when the other person hasn’t actually ended things.

I met someone and we started building something together. At least, that was how I saw it. We were talking everyday, sharing things about our lives, checking on each other and slowly becoming part of each other’s daily routine.

It wasn’t just casual conversations anymore. I started feeling that we had something special, something that could eventually become more meaningful. I wasn’t expecting everything to be perfect, but I thought we were both moving in the same direction.

Then things started to change.

He told me he is going through a difficult time right now. There are many things happening in his life and he said he doesn’t have the capacity to make this relationship a priority. He doesn’t want to break up or end things between us, but he wants us to slow down our communication.

Instead of talking everyday like we used to, he prefers to communicate on an “as needed” basis.

He also told me that he still cares about me, still thinks about me, and that this is just not the right time for us.

I tried to understand his situation. I know life can be difficult sometimes, and there are moments when we have so many things to deal with that even maintaining a relationship becomes exhausting.

I am not asking him to give me all his time. I don’t expect him to forget his responsibilities or put everything aside just for me. I understand that he has his own struggles too.

But honestly, I don’t know how I am supposed to feel about this arrangement.

If you really care about someone, wouldn’t you still want to have them around, even during difficult times? Maybe not everyday, maybe not long conversations, but at least some effort to let the other person know they are still part of your life?

I am not asking for constant attention. I just don’t want to feel like I am only there when he has time or when he needs someone.

What confuses me the most is that he hasn’t ended the relationship. He says he still cares, but at the same time, he is slowly stepping away from everything we used to have.

So what am I supposed to do now?

Should I wait until things get better for him? Should I continue with my life but still keep a place for him? Or should I start accepting that maybe this is already the end, even though nobody has actually said it?

Sometimes I wonder if what we had was really something meaningful to him, or perhaps it was just something nice to have while life was going well. Maybe I am overthinking, but I can’t help feeling that way.

I don’t want to be unfair to him. I know I don’t fully understand what he is going through, and I don’t want to make his difficult situation even harder.

But what about my feelings?

I also have emotions to deal with. I also have expectations, even if they are not unreasonable ones. I was also investing my time and feelings into something that I thought we were building together.

I think the hardest part is not knowing where I stand anymore.

If he had told me that he wanted to end things, at least I would know what I need to accept. But when someone says they still care, still think about you, and doesn’t want to break up, yet wants to communicate only when necessary, how do you actually move on from that?

Do you even call it a breakup?

I believe relationships need patience. There will be good days and bad days, and sometimes one person will need more support than the other. I don’t expect both people to give the same amount all the time.

But shouldn’t there still be some willingness from both sides to maintain what they have?

I am starting to realize that maybe caring about someone and being ready to build a relationship with them are two different things.

And perhaps that is something I need to accept.

I don’t know if I should continue giving him space or if I am just making excuses because I am not ready to let go. Part of me still hopes things will return to how they were, but another part of me is telling me that I cannot keep waiting for something that has no clear direction.

I guess what I really want to know is how people move on from situations like this.

Have you ever been in a relationship where the other person never really ended things, but also wasn’t making an effort to keep it going? Did you wait for them, or did you eventually decide to walk away?

How do you stop hoping when someone keeps telling you that they still care?

I am not writing this to blame him. I just want to understand what I should do with my own feelings.

Maybe I need to accept that some things don’t work out, even when both people care about each other.

But honestly, letting go of something you once believed had a future is not as easy as people make it sound.

I just hope I can find a way to move forward without feeling that I am giving up on something that could have been special.
