Why I Want to Dedicate This Song to All the Interpreters Out There

Being an interpreter is often a thankless job, but it is also one of the most meaningful roles one can take on. We bridge languages, cultures, and emotions, ensuring that people understand one another when it matters most. Whether in the midst of a medical emergency, a legal negotiation, or a heartfelt reunion, interpreters are there to make communication seamless.

This song I wrote embodies the emotions we often feel: the struggles of being unseen, the weight of responsibility, and the quiet joy of knowing we’ve made a difference. It reminds me of the resilience, empathy, and dedication interpreters bring to their work every single day.

To all the interpreters out there, whether you’re whispering in a conference booth, typing furiously online, or speaking calmly in a hospital room, this is for you. Your efforts might go unnoticed by many, but they are indispensable to those you help.

This song is a tribute to your hard work, your passion, and your unwavering commitment to connecting people!

The Face On The Screen
Hey, I’m a video interpreter, caught in the scene,
Behind a screen, I’m the bridge, I’m the in-between.
I see the pain that the world don’t see,
Sufferin’ souls beggin’ for clarity.
Life’s in a frame, but I’m in the back,
Translatin’ the trauma while they stay off track.

Clients snap when the line goes bad,
I’m tryin’ my best, but they just get mad.
Patients who can’t appreciate what I do,
It’s not just words, it’s feelin’ it through.

911 calls with people in distress,
Lives on the line, and I’m givin’ my best.
A mother’s scream, a child’s last breath,
I’m carryin’ their pain, I’m translatin’ their death.

I’m just a face on a screen, but you don’t know me,
Livin’ the pain, the joy, the stories they never see.
Behind every word, there’s a truth untold,
A world full of suffering, that the blind can’t hold.

People fightin’ for benefits they deserve,
I’m the one who translates each nerve.
Their hope, their anger, their deepest fears,
I’m the voice they need when nobody hears.

They think it’s simple, just sayin’ the words,
But every call’s a symphony of feelings unheard.
From doctors to lawyers, and courts to care,
I’m jugglin’ it all, tryin’ to be everywhere.

The weight’s on me, but I still stand tall,
Can’t drop the ball when the stakes are this small.
But what they don’t see, what they can’t understand,
I’m human too, with my own demands.

I’m just a face on a screen, but you don’t know me,
Livin’ the pain, the joy, the stories they never see.
Behind every word, there’s a truth untold,
A world full of suffering, that the blind can’t hold.

We’re people too, carryin’ all this weight,
Tryin’ to stay strong while we translate.
We bleed, we break, but we gotta keep on,
‘Cause their stories don’t end when the screen is gone.

I’m a lifeline, but who’s there for me?
When the calls end, it’s my pain I see.
The world doesn’t notice, they just demand,
But every call, I’m holdin’ a soul in my hand.

Through the screen, I see the world so raw,
The beauty, the heartbreak, the ugly I saw.
A father’s love, a daughter’s goodbye,
The smiles of relief, and the tears that dry.

But they think we’re machines, nothin’ more than a tool,
Don’t see the emotion, don’t see we’re fuel.
For every word spoken, there’s a toll it takes,
For every life I touch, another piece breaks.

Yet I keep goin’, it’s the role I play,
In a world that don’t thank us, day by day.
I’m the voice of the voiceless, eyes for the blind,
But I’m also a soul, just tryin’ to unwind.

I’m just a face on a screen, but you don’t know me,
Livin’ the pain, the joy, the stories they never see.
Behind every word, there’s a truth untold,
A world full of suffering, that the blind can’t hold.

So next time you see a screen, take a second to feel,
Behind the words, there’s a person who’s real.
We’re interpreters, but we’re human too,
And the world don’t see what we go through.
