While you’re thinking about it, associate the lyrics with the characters. Exploring the connections between song lyrics and literature can be an enriching experience. The themes of love, loss, and societal struggles often find expression in both art forms. Analyzing how a lyric’s emotional depth mirrors a book’s narrative can offer new perspectives. Such comparisons can illuminate the power of language to evoke universal human experiences. Discovering these parallels creates a deeper appreciation for both music and literature.
To get the ball rolling, here is my take! So I gave it some thought about music + book pairing.
For my book, I’d pick “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern
As for the song, I feel that “Cosmic Love” by Florence & The Machine
The Night Circus is a dreamlike, enchanting novel filled with magic, love, and fate…with elements that Cosmic Love captures beautifully.
The song’s ethereal, almost tragic tone mirrors the love between Celia and Marco, who are bound by forces beyond their control yet deeply drawn to each other.
Lyric wise, “A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes.” Relates to Celia and Marco’s love, intertwined with magic, feels cosmic and destined.
For me, the song’s whimsical yet haunting quality matches the novel’s surreal, mesmerizing circus atmosphere!
